Cities that proclaimed March 20th MeatOut Day In 2024

In 2024, MeatOut, once again, inspired activists to take action across the country through government “MeatOut Day” proclamations and events. In 2024, MeatOut was proclaimed in:

  • New York City
  • Washington, DC
  • Prince’s County, MD (by unanimous vote by the PGC Council)
  • Durham, NC
  • The State of West Virginia
  • Asheville, NC
  • Greenbelt, MD
  • Laurel, MD

In total, more than 18,700,000 residents across the Eastern Seaboard were inspired to take meat off their plates for just one day. Numerous newspapers, online magazines, and TV stations broadcasted these proclamations and more than a dozen newspapers in Vermont were contacted and many published a board-member written editorial letter including the Brattleboro Informer. Additionally, an editorial letter from Eric C Lindstrom, FARM’s Executive Director, was published in the New York Daily News and the San Francisco Chronicle, among others.

In all, more than 20,000,000 people were reached through these government proclamations and thousands more were reached during in-person events:

Leafleting in Washington, DC on Sunday, March 24 and Saturday, March 30 allowed for 5,000 leaflets and MeatOut round postcards to be handed out to residents and tourists during the popular Cherry Blossom Festival. Thanks to the generosity of FakeMeats.com, Primal Jerky, Upton’s Naturals, Treeline Cheese, and a FARM donor who made available copies of the “My Farm Friends” coloring books, activists were able to engage through thousands of handouts and giveaways.

Animal Place, in Grass Valley, CA, hosted their annual MeatOut event which includes sampling delicious vegan food and drinks from some of the most popular vegan eateries and companies, live performances from musicians Dylan Vroom and CJ Washington, talks by leaders from a variety of incredible animal organizations, and hanging out with adorable, rescued farmed animals.

Meanwhile, as a carry-over from 2020, farmers and ranchers within the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association hosted their own “anti-MeatOut” MeatIn events, inadvertently drawing more attention to our own mission.

FARM maintains several websites promoting an ethical vegan lifestyle and plant-based diet:
