Introduction
Each
year, FARM spends thousands
of hours and tens of thousands of dollars organizing and supplying
materials for Meatout. Since its inception, local coordinators have
not been asked to raise money on behalf of the National Meatout
Campaign.
Now,
we are trying something new and we invite you to join us. We have
designed several fundraising events to expand the reach of future
Meatout campaigns and to increase the total number of events. Try
a Walk or other fundraising event and help us help others.

Ways to Participate in a Meatout Walk
- Coordinator:
Organize a walk in your area. We have a lot to offer and more
is coming soon. This page is designed for you!
- Walker: Participate
in a planned walk. Gather donations, win prizes, help a great
cause & have fun. This page is for you too or ask your local
coordinator.
- Contributor:
Show your support with a financial contribution to a walker in
your area or contact us
directly.
Factors in Choosing a Location
- Accessibility:
Look for easy access to parking & public transportation. Also
consider permit availability and obtaining well-known areas.
- Visibility:
Target large numbers of people. Are they friendly, health conscious,
food-related, public interest, etc.?
- Ease of path:
Find a central place to meet before and after the walk. Check
available walkways, traffic, trails, hills, shade, etc.
- Length:
We recommend 2-5 miles or 30-90 minutes total round trip.
- Plan ahead:
Practice your walk as early as possible. Advertise your walk (see
below). Plan food or entertainment.
Promoting
Your Walk
- Use our announcement
form or make
your own. Hang in local stores, libraries, vegetarian restaurants,
and animal-friendly locations.
- Post e-mail announcements
on local internet groups.
- Use the calendar
sections of local papers. Don't forget the online versions
too.
- Ask related groups
to join (environmental groups, for example).
- Ask your friends,
family, coworkers, fellow students, and walkers to distribute
announcements and to invite their friends.
- We'll take care
of the national
press releases, the Meatout 2003 web listing, and alert local
activists in your area.
Before
and After Your Walk
- Arrive an hour
early to
register last minute walkers, collect money and distribute Meatout
T-shirts to those who are pre-registered.
- Have water and
extra signs
available.
- Food
and entertainment
before or after your walk enhances the experience for all and
attracts more walkers.
- Take pictures!
Timing
- Begin now planning
your walk location
and gathering permit if necessary.
- Begin promoting
the walk
and signing up walkers (now or wait until the materials listed
below in the "Coming Soon" section are available at
the end of January).
- Have walkers gather
donations as soon as possible. The minimum Walk pledge is
$20. Everyone registered with at least $20 will receive a Meatout
T-shirt.
- Collect all money
available and send to Meatout Walk 10101 Ashburton Lane, Bethesda
MD 20817 two-weeks before your walk so we can send you the Meatout
T-shirts (be sure to ask for sizes).
- Send remainder
of donations
collected within 5 days after the walk so T-shirts and other prizes
can be awarded immediately.
- Send your comments.
We want to know what you liked and what you didn't. What worked?
What needs improvement?
